Kaaryn Nailor, Demond Simmons

Kaaryn Marie Nailor and Demond Simmons are to be married Sunday at Bridgewaters, an event space in New York. Larry Flowers, a friend of the couple who became a Universal Life minister for the event, is to officiate.

The couple met as students at Hampton University, from which the bride graduated.

The bride, 34, who will take her husband’s name, is a program director for the Harlem Children’s Zone, a nonprofit organization that runs after-school programs and workshops for poor children and their families as well as two charter schools in Harlem. She received a law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law of Yeshiva University.

She is the daughter of Linda M. Trice and Dr. John R. Nailor, both of New York. She is the stepdaughter of Paula James-Nailor. Her father is an orthopedic surgeon in private practice in New York. Her mother is the author of several children’s books, including “Kenya’s Word.”

Until last March, the bridegroom, 35, was a project manager at Code, an architectural consulting firm in New York. He is pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Lehman College.

He is a son of Mary S. Simmons and Clinton Simmons of Bloomfield, Conn. His mother retired as a postal clerk there. His father retired as a driver for the United Parcel Service, also in Bloomfield.
