02.27.10 | Free Wedding Photography Contest – Ends April 30, 2010
This is a lot to read, but I guess it’s only fair :)

There’s something magical about inspiration. It’s almost like a force of energy that pushes you, moving you into the direction of your dreams. Certain things, which inspire me, do not go easily forgotten. There was a story a very dear teacher of mine read in class back in my High School days, which stayed with me all these years, and so it’s a perfect opportunity for me to share it with you now.

The Starfish Story, by Loren Eiseley
There was once a wise old man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. One day as he walked along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man, and the young man wasn’t dancing, but instead was reaching down to the shore, picking up starfish, and very gently throwing them into the ocean.
“Good morning! What are you doing?” asked the wise man.
The young man paused, looked up, and replied, “Throwing starfish into the ocean. The sun is rising, and the tide is out. And if I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.”
“But, young man, don’t you realize that there are miles of beach and thousands of starfish all along it? You can’t possibly make a difference!”
The young man, listening politely, bent down and picked up another starfish, throwing it into the sea past the breaking waves. Turning to the old man, he modestly replied, “It made a difference for that one.”

Inspiration goes a long way as it led me to the point where I am today. I love what I do, and over the years I formed some beautiful friendships because of that. And now, I feel it is time for me to make a difference and maybe inspire someone else along the way.

I will be taking entries for my first “FREE Wedding Photography Contest”! I’m looking for a special kind of couple. Genuine, fun, laid back (because I am), and who can truly use my services. I want to hear your story in an essay form. If including any other media, it is to be in addition to the essay. Include your names, your telephone number, email address, city and state of your residence, and country if outside of the United States. I want you to tell me what you expect your wedding to be like and why you chose to have the type of wedding you are having. Feel free to entice me with your details and unique ideas. I also would be curious to hear about the proposal and be brought up to date as to how far along you are in your planning. Share with me the schedule of the day, including the venues you’ll be using if you’ve picked one out and tell me why you chose the wedding date you did, if you have one set. And of course, how I would make a difference to you if you are chosen. The more you tell me about yourselves the better! If you win, it’s important that you know that you’re not just getting a free wedding photographer, you’re getting a wedding photographer who puts her heart and soul into what she does. This contest is very personal to me.

To be considered for the winning spot, the wedding must take place within or closely surrounding the New York City area, unless travel/logging costs can be covered if more than an hour driving distance from NYC. The wedding would have to take place within one calendar year of the closing date of this contest, but is also subject to my availability. By entering into this contest, you agree to having your story and picture posted/published on any company promotional/marketing material in printed or electronic form, anytime after submission has been made, even if not selected as the winner. The winning couple must be comfortable with my shooting style.

Winning couple will receive 10 hours of free wedding photography coverage by Irina Mednik of Creative I Photography. Images will be color corrected and posted to an online gallery for viewing/sharing. Winning couple will also receive a disc with the images and a slideshow highlighting the day. Submissions are being accepted February 27, 2010 through April 30, 2010. I look forward to reading all your stories! Please email your essay and attach a picture of yourselves to: contest@creativeiphotography.com with “Free Wedding Photography” in the subject line. Contest rules and details are below. Let the contest begin!
